Groups of 20–25 students swear off the automatic setting of digital SLRs as they learn to operate knobs and dials. Inside the studio, brains steep in knowledge of exposure, aperture, ISO, and shutter speed, empowering them to judge the best settings for capturing grand vistas or detailed headshots of a ladybug. Students are welcome to bring their own cameras, and snacks and drinks brought from home refresh creative juices.
Photo walks in Griffith Park and at the Golden Gate Bridge extend classroom skills into the real world. With groups of fellow camera clickers and instructor guidance, participants capture dramatic landscapes, architectural photographs, and portraits.
