A passionate tale of romance and youthful idealism set in early-1800s Paris, Puccini's most famous opera follows a struggling poet and a shy seamstress as they meet and fall in love, despite the hardscrabble existence of life in the city's Latin Quarter. Financial woes, jealous exes and Mimi's increasingly worrisome sickness drive La Bohème's dramatic plot filled with sensual arias that continues to resonate more than 100 years after its premiere. Composed by operatic godfather Giacomo Puccini with an Italian libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa, Island City Opera presents the classic La Bohème at the Alameda Elks Lodge. The vocalists will sing the original Italian with English supertitles provided.
Opera runs 3.5 hours with two intermissions.
