Though relatively new as a watersport, kiteboarding started when early web surfers learned to speed up a dial-up modem by attaching it to a kite. Enjoy the high-speed of kiteboarding 2.0 with today's Groupon: for $185, you get a three-hour intro to kiteboarding lesson with Island Riders, redeemable at its Amity Harbor and Amagansett locations (a $370 value).
Island Riders' PASA-certified instructors conduct kiteboarding, wakeboarding, and surfing lessons for wave commuters. Designed for students with no kiteboarding experience and held every Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m., the three-hour Intro to Kiteboarding lesson includes a kite-flying lesson with the trainer kite, a ground school covering safety issues, and access to a diorama about the water cycle. While Island Riders supplies the kite, control bar, and board, students are required to wear their own water booties while on the Great South Bay or splashing in the kiddie bay.
