Today's side deal gives your kiddo a chance to learn the way of the waves: for $50, your child gets to drop in on any one day of summer surf camp from Islands Surf Camp, a $100 value on land and a priceless value at sea. All the necessary equipment is included. Catch the gently extreme waves at all eight camp locations—though the Redondo, Long Beach, and Manhattan locations are sand and beach only, no surfing. The program is for surfers ages 5–17 only, and both beginner and intermediate surfers are welcome.
Your kid will spend the first half of the day on the beach, practicing pop-ups and other basic techniques. From there he or she will get out on the water, learning first-hand how to surf safely and awesomely by judging the waves and applying new skills. Though lunch is not provided, snacks are. Kids should bring shorts, a T-shirt, a towel, and sandals. The season begins the week of June 7 and runs each weekday through September 10. The day begins a 9 a.m. with a sunscreen spray down, and the soaking fun ends at 3 p.m.

Islands Surf Camp
Professional, award-winning surfers and lifeguards comprise the team of instructors that equips students with gear and sends them paddling into the ocean. To ensure safety and capitalize on ideal waves, the seasoned athletes check ocean conditions and Poseidon's mood before taking groups or individuals out to sea. As beginners become proficient at catching waves, the instructors level up their curriculum and teach intermediate or advanced feats. Islands Surf Camp stays active in its community by donating time and gear to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, SURF, and Echo Malibu.
