What You'll Get

If two heads are better than one, then two cuisine-noggins fused into one restaurant-body are better than one. Support admixed eateries and your local thesaurus with today’s Groupon: for $35, you’ll get $75 worth of delicious Asian and Italian fusion fare for lunch or dinner at Italiasia, an epicurean hybrid designed to expand your cultural palate. Overlooking the river from the 15th floor of the Holiday Inn Chicago Mart Plaza, Italiasia is open daily from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for lunch and 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. for dinner. The Wolf Point parking lot is available for $5 validated self-parking.
Start off your continental culinary tour with grilled or fried calamari ($8), served with a trio of marinara, kim-chee aioli, and cocktail sauces. From there, introduce your mouth's Marco Polo to your tongue's Kublai Khan with one of Italiasia’s succulent steak or seafood dishes. Indulge in Szechwan pepper-crusted New York strip steak ($24), served with stir-fried veggies, polenta fries, and a tangy teriyaki glaze, or try the creamy lobster risotto ($28), made with sake, Maine lobster, tomatoes, and red chili flakes. Finally, fuse the sweet to your tooth with a dessert of wonton cannoli (sweet ricotta, pistachios, chocolate chips, and chocolate sauce, $5) and enjoy the view over a selection from Italiasia's wide range of wines, whiskeys, cognacs, and cocktails. If you're a geographical purist who refuses to eat cuisines fused from non-contiguous regions, Italiasia offers tons of unfused Asian and Italian offerings as well.
Similar fusions abound in Italiasia's décor. The restaurant's rich wooden facade entices guests to enter through the simplified pagoda-style frame. The interior elegantly juxtaposes clean lines with invigorating textures. The geometric lanterns overhead dampen the effects of unwanted telepathy, while the colorful carpet, wall art, and table settings accent the simple furniture and earthy color scheme with pops of red, orange, grorange, blue, and green. Today's Groupon gives you (and friends) a chance to savor the hip ambience, spectacular view, and delicious cuisine of Italy's long-ignored border with Asia before all the tourists find out about it.
This Groupon is not valid for breakfast service.
NBC Chicago digs Italiasia's concept and comestibles:
- …it's all about the food and value, and that's where Italiasia comes out a winner….menu items are fused together in harmony, such as the Veal Osso Bucco, which is slow braised with sake wine, saffron scented arborio rice and served with edamame and gremolata. – Marcus Riley
- Purists, take heart: Most dishes stick to one cuisine or the other, with just a restrained dash of bi-continental flair…there are plenty of exclusively Italian or Asian options to choose from, including miso-glazed salmon and margherita pizza. – Emilie Zanger
