Beer has been enjoyed for millennia, much like the comical query "Working hard or hardly working?" Taste a time-honored tradition with this Groupon.
$15 for General Admission for Two ($30 Value)
Beginning at 2 p.m., KC Real Ale Fest admits general-admission ticket-holders to The Shops at Longview to sample bottle-conditioned ales from craft breweries, and any cask ales remaining from the VIP portion of the festival. The first 250 guests also receive a souvenir glass. At 4 p.m., the festival opens Fascination Drive to the public and transforms into a block party with live music and food.
KC Real Ale Fest
What's a firkin? Most people would be stumped at the question, but at KC Real Ale Fest the answer is within arm's reach: it's approximately 10.8 gallons of beer, and the name of the cask that contains it. On June 22, riding the wake of the Tour of KC bike race, more than 10 firkins will flow, all from American craft breweries such as Green Flash, Tallgrass, Summit, and Empyrean. VIP guests have first go at these beers, but any leftover samples will pour into the cups of general-admission ticket-holders.
Even if the casks run dry, though, there are plenty of bottle-conditioned brews available. And, as visitors compare the taste of different hops, they can watch a live home-brewing demonstration from Bacchus & Barleycorn, which teaches techniques for making beer at home without interrogating Budweiser's Clydesdales. Then, come 4 p.m., the festival opens up into a public block party full of food, live music, and more sudsy brews.
