What You'll Get
If woolly mammoths had mastered the triple Lutz, they would've made it out of the Ice Age and into the Bronze Age, if not the Silver or Gold Age. Ensure your long-term survival with today's Groupon to Jacksonville Ice & Sportsplex. Choose between the following options:
- For $5, you get admission to one public skating session and a skate rental (up to a $12 value).
- For $124, you get one week of basic skills camp beginning June 20, July 11, July 18, or August 8 (up to a $240 value).
Sprawling over 100,000 square feet of sports and socializing space, Jacksonville Ice & Sportsplex envelops skaters in the wintery respite of its NHL-size year-round rink. Separate Salchows from toe loops during a two-hour public skating session that includes skate rental (a $9 value during the week; a $12 value on Friday nights and weekends). After consulting the rink schedule and trading street shoes for sets of sleek blades, skaters glide through crowds of happy cohorts, mastering basic motions or the rumble sequence from West Side Story On Ice. Stalwart rink guards keep sessions secure, standing ever ready to assist skaters in need.
From 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday–Friday, basic skills camp initiates novice skaters into the figure-skating fraternity through a variety of activities both on and off the ice. Skaters study figure-skating basics, including lessons on ice dancing, stretching, and how to skate in cursive. Since inaugural ice walks can be intimidating, seasoned instructors soothe nerves and appeal to common interests with swag bags and camp themes such as Broadway Biz and New York, New York. Though campers are welcome to wear their own skates and pack their own midday meal, rental skates are available free of charge, and parents can pay an additional $45 at the beginning of the week to cover healthy lunches provided by the facility.
