Commuting via sailboat has a number of advantages: there are no traffic jams, there are no hitchhikers with hooks for teeth, and if you hit a deer it's definitely the deer's fault. Take the trials out of travel with today’s Groupon: for $65, you get a one-hour sailing lesson for up to three people from Midwest Sailing (a $150 value).
Midwest Sailing turns novice navigators’ dreams of wind-blown hair and spray-soaked faces into reality. On the placid waters of 970-acre Lake Jacomo, shore dwellers learn the basics of watercraft wrangling during lessons led by Hal Wood, a certified U.S. Sailing instructor with a decade of teaching experience. In the span of an hour, up to three friends discover their sea legs with hands-on instruction on locating and harnessing wind, steering in all directions, and the best knots for securing mutinous lookouts. Students fish up new skills from the comfort of Midwest Sailing's smaller boats, including crafts such as the Capri 14.2 or Starwind 19. In the event of rough seas, spirited squalls, or sightings of the Flying Dutchman, lessons will be rescheduled for brighter days.
