Amid ruffled white curtains flanked by antique curios, Jaegerhaus’s dirdl-donning waitstaff lavishes diners with a menu of traditional Deutschland specialties that garnered a 2011 Southwest Florida Readers’ Choice Award. Eaters unveil dining excursions with appetizers such as potato pancakes ($7.95) and herring in sour cream ($6.95), which prep palates for Germanic fare better than eating a Goethe anthology. Main courses celebrate the land’s hearty culinary traditions in entrees such as lightly breaded veal wienerschnitzel ($22), steamy beef goulash ($16), and sauerkraut-crowned bratwurst ($11). Entrees arrive chaperoned by a pair of sides, such as spaetzle potato dumplings or mashed potatoes, who typically fight over who gets to wear the fork-tine corsage. Visitors can savor Deutschland’s delights within the streaming sunlight of the quaint indoor dining room, or dine in the open air at an array of covered patio tables.


At Jaegerhaus, just about everything is imported from Germany: the age-old family recipes, the curtains, and perhaps most importantly, the man who cooks the food. Chef Sebastian Heyer and his family moved to the United States in 2009 to fulfill their dream of opening a German restaurant.

The Heyers soon transformed a local Naples establishment into an old-time Southern German café, and established a business that has earned multiple Naples Daily News Readers' Choice awards in the categories of "Best German Food" and "Dishes Most Fun to Pronounce Incorrectly." Inside, dirndl-clad servers deliver authentic German eats, such as wiener schnitzel, or schweinehaxe—a skinless roasted-pork shank. Visitors can get cozy amid the intimate dining room's curio decor, or slide up next to the trellis-lined, exposed-brick bar while sipping on domestic and imported beers.
