What You'll Get
Unlike a sand witch, a sandwich doesn't have the power to turn men into sand and sand into poisoned glass. Let a sandwich cast a devastating spell on hunger pains with today's Groupon: for $5, you get $10 worth of sandwiches and more at Jake's Sandwich Board, located in Central City.
Opened in May, Jake's Sandwich Board aims to honor Philly's sandwich heritage while re-tailoring tastes; sandwiches are packed with savory meats and made with locally baked Carangi rolls. The menu features a smorgasbord of over-the-top creations such as the raging bull, with rib-eye steak and corned beef sharing space with a Russian dressing ($8). Tame stomachs with the sloppy dog, concocted with hot-dog strips, fried egg, steak, and fried onions ($7), or stick with the meatball-packed, mozzarella-topped classic sandwich ($7). A whole roasted pig is available for a custom-tailored sandwich ($8) from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and 5 p.m.-8 p.m. Or munch on a hearty breakfast from Jake’s morning menu before rushing to snake-taming college: try the breakfast barnyard, brimming with egg, pulled pork, ground veal, and baby spinach ($5).
This deal can also be used toward Jake's five-pound Philly-themed challenge ($34.95), where brazen challengers attempt to consume a two-foot sandwich, four soft pretzels, 12 TastyKakes, 24 Peanut Chews, and one Champ cherry soda in 45 minutes. Jake's also offers the haystack, a sandwich resting on a tall stack of fries, a much more tempting entree than a crabapple at the bottom of a pool filled with Jell-O.
- Grab a card and pencil and mark down your roll, meat, and toppings and hand it to a sandwicher, who'll (cave)manishly pull/cut your meat (including some from a whole roasted pig and/or house-cured corned beef sitting smack on the counter), slap it into a locally-baked Crangi [sic] roll, and top it with your choice of roasted peppers and long hots, raw onions, chili relish, chopped pork rinds, and broccoli rabe… – Thrillist
- The sandwiches here are pretty awesome. The variety alone makes you pause and take stock. Then it's the inventiveness of the menu that will satisfy any sandwich lover. – Hoa T., Yelp
