Though the Caribbean isles are well known to outsiders, Caribbean cuisine remains a hidden gem due to tourists frequently subsisting solely off a paste made from sand, ocean water, and puréed linen pants. Uncover the edible treasure of the tropics with today’s Groupon: for $15, you get $30 worth of authentic Jamaican fare at Jamaica Gates Caribbean Cuisine in Arlington.

Featured on Food Network, Jamaica Gates’ chefs plate an extensive menu of traditional Jamaican fare, including authentic options such as goat soup packed with garlic, scallions, green bananas, peppers, and dumplings ($6.92). Red Stripe chicken twists tradition like the arm of a friend whom you're convincing to ride the Tilt-A-Whirl, in a house-made sauce of coconut milk and its namesake brew ($13.92). The bone-in brown-stew fish sizzles in seasonings before a slow simmer in a homemade sauce ($15.92), and the Rasta pasta makes a dapper first impression with a colorful plate of edible bow-ties and fresh veggies ($12.92). Sips of pineapple soda or non-alcoholic ginger beer ($2) quench spice-fueled fires, and rich slabs of Jamaican rum cake round out Caribbean quests ($6.92).

Jamaica Gates Caribbean Cuisine

Of all the island flavors in the menu at Jamaica Gates Caribbean Cuisine, there's one in particular that lures diners: authenticity. That's because each plate of Red Stripe chicken, Rude Boy jerk shrimp, and Brown Stew Fish comes from Executive Chef Barbara Renfro's personal recipe collection, which caught the attention of Guy Fieri on Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Born and raised in Jamaica, Barbara spent many years preparing and amassing a variety of recipes that mix bold spices; sautéed vegetables; and slices of seared chicken, beef, and seafood. While the food draws diners into the restaurant, live music every Friday and Saturday night entices guests to stay and relax instead of rushing home to listen in on their neighbor's karaoke party.

Great food and service!

The server was very nice and courteous. The oxtails, peas & rice, and cabbage were tasty!

Total two thumbs up!!!!! Everything was amazing!! The Alcoholic drinks are fantastic but extremely strong. if you like something lightly sweet, sticky citrus wings are absolutely wonderful. If you prefer something with a bite the Caribbean Jerk Shrimp or Wings are to die for. The Gate Curry Chicken was tasty with just a slight bite to add to the flavor...totally recommend it! My daughter loves her KingstonTrio. The music on Friday and Saturday nights is amazing and really added to the atmosphere.
