Across Japan, communities remain in disarray after the 9.0-magnitude earthquake that struck off the nation's coast on March 11, a disaster that—together with the tsunamis it generated—has claimed more than 10,000 lives to-date. As a result of this catastrophic event, thousands of people remain missing, countless families have lost homes, the Fukushima power plant threatens to wreak lasting havoc, and more than 200 aftershocks continue to shudder across the island chain. In response to these issues, the Japan Society, a nonprofit that cultivates dialogue and understanding between the peoples of the United States and Japan, is working to bring stability to the lives affected by this tragedy.
The Society’s Earthquake Relief Fund was founded to aid victims of the Tohoku-Pacific Ocean earthquake by providing immediate and far-reaching financial support. Funds raised go to four organizations: the Tokyo Volunteer Network for Disaster Relief, JEN, Entrepreneurial Training for Innovative Communities, and the Japan NPO Center, each of which is working toward earthquake and tsunami recovery. In addition to supporting on-the-ground organizations, the fund will bolster long-term reconstruction.
Join G-Team and donate $15 to support the Japan Society’s continuing earthquake relief efforts. If G-Team members raise $375, individuals suffering from the earthquake and tsunami’s residual and ongoing damage will receive aid to help rebuild their lives, communities, and infrastructure. Each additional $15 raised will go toward further disaster relief. In addition, if at least 25 G-Team members donate to this campaign, each will receive a complimentary ticket to a special screening of Jiro Dreams of Sushi, a documentary film and entrant in the World Documentary Competition at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival detailing the master craftsmanship of an 85-year-old sushi chef. The screening will take place Saturday, April 30, at 2:30 p.m. at the SVA Theatre on West 23rd Street.
Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings." So "buyer" beware—when you click "Buy" to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100% off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.
