Samurai sword fights, flavorful bento boxes, and bone-shaking taiko drumming. Once a year since 1981, JapanFest has brought food, art, culture, and airline peanuts from the Land of the Rising Sun to the American South. Organized by JapanFest, Inc. and supported by the Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Georgia (JCCG) and the Japan-America Society of Georgia (JASG), the celebration features attractions that range from the high-adrenaline—swordplay and archery demos—to the serene, such as workshops on Japanese etiquette and the mystique of sake. Between martial arts and sushi-making lessons, visitors can head to the food court for old-fashioned udon, yakitori, takoyaki, and curry rice.
