Bento boxes. Specialty sushi rolls. Udon. Yaki soba. The chefs at Japonee prepare all this and along with other authentic Japanese dishes at the newly reopened Bloomington restaurant. Specialty sushi rolls are a popular choice, with options like the Crazy Friday roll. To make the intricate make, chefs stuff the roll with crab meat, avocado, and cream cheese before deep frying it and topping it with spicy mayo, eel sauce, and mango.
And don't be surprised if you overhear the enthusiastic sound of slightly off-key singing: karaoke is also a fun option for groups, in between spearing fresh fish with chopsticks and thumping the tables in raucous rounds of sake bombs. Along with Japonee, Bloomington residents and visitors can sip on drinks at the restaurant group's nearby sake bar, and feast on sushi at Soban, also found just off the Indiana University campus.
