Fifty years ago, jazz titan John Coltrane debuted A Love Supreme, regarded by many as not just his greatest work, but also the most profoundly spiritual jazz composition ever created. Now, tenor Jon Lovano comes to Jazz at Lincoln Center's Appel Room to pay homage to Coltrane's musical declaration of God's presence in his life and music. Ravi Coltrane, Grammy-nominated jazz saxophonist and son of the evening's honoree, joins Lovano and an all-star band, including Brian Blade, Geri Allen (on May 14 only), Tom Harrell, Steve Kuhn, Andrew Cyrille and longtime Coltrane colleague Reggie Workman. Together they'll raise their instruments in honor of that landmark composition, a true masterpiece of improvisation.
