Known in jazz circles as "The Real Diehl," multi-prizewinning pianist and composer Aaron Diehl makes his Appel Room debut as an ensemble leader with this much-anticipated series of New York concerts. With a career steadily on the rise since his top ranking at the 2002 Essentially Ellington competition, Diehl's a Juilliard graduate who's famed for his inventive solos and for becoming one of the youngest artists ever to be named a 2014 Monterey Jazz Festival Commission Artist. Plus, his 2015 album Space Time Continuum, was called "superior" and "jubilant" by The New York Times. Set to join him for the jam are vibraphonist Warren Wolf, trumpeter Dominick Farinacci, tenor saxophonist Stephen Riley, bassist Paul Sikivie, drummer Lawrence Leathers and Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra baritone saxophonist Joe Temperley.
