Born to a Broadway composer father and a mother who frequently sang on national TV in the '50s and '60s, it was pretty much inevitable that Bill Charlap would become a musician. Grammy Award winning, this masterful jazz pianist has worked with such greats as Tony Bennett, Gerry Mulligan, Benny Carter and more. In 2012, he even played piano on 30 Rock, accompanying Tony Bennett at the wedding reception of Liz Lemon. For this special Jazz at Lincoln Center evening at the Rose Theater, Charlap will take his audience on a musical journey through New York City. Traveling from Broadway to Harlem, he'll salute such icons of American songwriting as George Gershwin, Duke Ellington, Irving Berlin, Fats Waller and Eubie Blake. Charlap will be joined by his trio, consisting of drummer Kenny Washington and bassist Peter Washington, along with guest vocalists Freddy Cole and Cécile McLorin Salvant, a 2014 Grammy nominee. Saxman Houston Person, most famed for his work with Etta James, and virtuoso clarinetist Ken Peplowski will also join this night of jazz, blues and musical theater.
