Ray Charles' ingenious synthesis of gospel, jazz, blues and country music made him one of the most important American musical figures of the 20th century. For evidence of his enduring legacy, look no further than President Obama belting "What'd I Say" at the White House's recent all-star tribute to the legend. Now, it's time for New York City to get in on the adoraytion with Jazz at Lincoln Center's The Ray Charles Songbook concert. Trumpeter and former Ray Charles band-member Kenny Rampton honors his former leader by presenting the most authentic Ray Charles experience possible. Joining him on the Rose Theater stage is two-time Grammy Award-winning pianist Diane Schuur, who shared a personal kinship with Charles. The band is full of Ray Charles alumni and the set lists are faithful recreations of actual Charles sets from past tours. This Rose Theater concert also features heart-stopping vocals by The Raelettes, Charles' historic group of female singers, as well as blues guitar legend Bill Sims and 2012 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Drums Competition winner Jamison Ross.
