What You'll Get
While secret societies have terrific members-only benefits, their gorilla-centric initiation rites are often illegal. Make a solemn fitness vow that's legal with today's Groupon: for $39, you get two months of unlimited Jazzercise classes at any of 17 Columbus area locations. Enter your address or zip code here to find the class nearest you and check to make sure it's included in the list of 17 available locations listed in the sidebar on the right. The value of today’s Groupon varies depending on the location selected, ranging from $33 a month plus a $25 joining fee (a $91 total value) to $98 a month plus a $75 joining fee (a $271 total value).
Jazzercise is 60 minutes of cardio, strength training, and stretching that incorporates moves from hip-hop, yoga, Pilates, jazz dance, kickboxing, and resistance training with handheld weights. Dancing with the Stars' multiple-champion Cheryl Burke is a big fan of Jazzercise's improvisational workouts, though luckily you won't need her dance moves to get the most out of your class. If you're prone to first-class jitters, though, you can review the basic moves online before you go. Students can expect to burn off up to 600 calories with each go-round.
Just as varied as the workouts are the class formats themselves. There are special Jazzercises geared to sculpt your bod, cut your workout time in half, or help you get those Rachel Dratch arms you asked for last Christmas. As for the ittie-bitties, childcare is available during select times at some locations.
If Jazzercise is a fleeting '80s memory for you, like your Betamax tape of ALF reruns or the "Frankie Say Relax" T-shirt you wear to do masonry work, today's Groupon gives you a chance to discover how the exercise phenomenon has evolved into one of the better total-body workouts available today. Just leave the hot-pink leotard in your glove compartment.

While teaching jazz dance in the 1960s, Judi Sheppard Missett decided to step away from tradition by offering an experimental class that allowed her students to simply dance without the judgment of mirrors or the constraints of rigid technique. In these sessions, she began infusing popular dance moves with specific fitness workouts to forge a distinctive blend of cardio exercise, strength training, and dance instruction. Little did she know that this “just for fun” class was the prototype for what would become the national fitness sensation known as Jazzercise.
Today, Jazzercise takes its aerobic techniques from a variety of sources that include jazz dance, hip-hop, resistance training, Pilates, yoga, and kickboxing. The class formats, which vary according to different toning goals, are just as diverse as the program's move set. Two-time Dancing with the Stars champion Cheryl Burke is a big fan of the improvisational routines, although her advanced skills aren't needed to get the most out of classes. Instructors cultivate a noncompetitive atmosphere where all exercisers—with the exception of those marked as cursed by jazz-hand palm readers—are welcome regardless of age, build, or fitness background.
