Canoe the Caney pairs aquatic adventurers with canoes and kayaks for a six-mile, nonguided journey down the scenic Caney Fork River. Voyages depart seven days a week at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., with paddlers meeting at Canoe the Caney’s shop. Life-jacket-wearing canoe and kayak captains steer down the Caney Fork, cresting over safe class-one rapids and meandering past the riverbanks’ smooth stone formations and suspiciously out-of-place gargoyles. Customers can spy a deer lapping water from the shore, hear songs caroled by the more than 300 species of birds, or smell the wildflowers rustling off the meadow, secreting their sweet fragrances and unpublished poetry. The journey ends six miles downstream at the Happy Hollow access point, where a shuttled steed awaits to ferry customers back to the shop. An online photo gallery shares pictures of past trips, allowing customers to reminisce about the time they wrestled a giant sea turtle.

About Canoe the Caney
Meadows of wildflowers and towering trees border the Caney Fork River on both sides, providing a refuge for deer, herons, turkeys, and hundreds of other bird species. With a fleet of canoes and kayaks as well as shuttle service straight to the riverbanks, Canoe the Caney makes it easy to explore this river’s natural beauty. Though the current bustles along at a slow and steady pace and the banks are usually 30 yards apart, Canoe the Caney staff still holds safety as its highest priority. The staff provides everyone with life jackets and review safety guidelines before giving paddlers permission to depart.
In addition to 6-mile and 9-mile trips down the river, Canoe the Caney also facilitates more playful adventures, including romantic picnic outings and a pirate adventure that invites paddlers to hunt for Captain JaBez’s long lost contact lens.
