Recent studies show that people who dance tend to possess above-average strength, endurance, and flexibility, as well as a significantly lower risk of getting served. Hone this vital skill with today’s Groupon: for $15, you get three two-hour introductory Latin dance classes ($10 value each, including cover charge for open dancing after 10 p.m.) from JC Entertainment. Each class lasts from 8 to 10 p.m. every Friday and covers linear-style salsa and bachata.
A good way for beginners to boot up their booties, the introductory Salsa Fever lessons benefit from the expertise of Carlos "El Hiperactivo" Rubio, the "Salsa King of Ohio." Rubio has been teaching salsa for 10 years and is one of the top salsa dancers in the state, having won and placed in numerous competitions across the fire-scorched land of Salsalita. Each rug-cutting class will cover the basics of leading and following, as this is the foundation from which fancy spins, tosses, and turns are built. Once you’ve mentally amputated your second left foot, show off your newly acquired moves at one of JC Entertainment’s various social events.
Salsa Fever classes are hosted at the newly remodeled upper level of La Fogata Grill, known for its elegant atmosphere, Latin dance music, and authentic Mexican fare. Since La Fogata opens its doors at 10 p.m. for open dancing, Rubio's students will have ample time to practice their cross body leads and coup-fourrés.
Ages 18 and up. You must attend your other two lessons within three months of attending the first.
Founder Juan Carlos Polanco came up with JC Entertainment as a way to encourage the community to participate in engaging and unique Hispanic cultural events. Polanco and his staff bring people of all ethnicities together with an array of latin-dance classes, musical performances, and private parties. At regularly scheduled events around town, skilled dance instructors teach guests to tap their feet to salsa, cha-cha, and merengue rhythms while DJs spin latin tunes ranging from salsa hits to Ovid's lost reggaeton poems.
