About JJ Bitting Brewing
Prohibition affected Woodbridge Township, New Jersey so strongly that the area didn't host a brewery for 64 years after the repeal. All of that changed in 1997, when the brewers at JJ Bitting Brewing Company settled into a three-story former coal and feed depot and began handcrafting ales and seasonal beers. They were ahead of America's craft brewing resurgence then, and they continue that legacy now; with a full range of beers and a menu of hearty comfort food—think fall off the bone baby back ribs, grilled pizza, 1/2-pound burgers, and stuffed chicken picatta—the pub earned the title of #2 Brewpub in America by BeerAdvocate.com and a televised visit from TLC's Cake Boss.
Here's a quick look at a few of JJ Bitting Brewing Company's beers you might find on tap:
- JJ's Raspberry Wheat: a refreshing concoction that's light on bitterness and generous on fresh raspberries, which only add to the crisp, all-season freshness (4.5% ABV)
- Hop Train IPA: this unfiltered American-style ale bursts with several varieties of hops from the Pacific Northwest and was created in homage to the local home-brew club (6.5% ABV)
- Coal Train Porter: malt-filled and full, it's a dark, roasted ale ideal for a wintry day curled up by the fireplace or bellied up to a warm bar (6% ABV)
