A Chat with Jocelyn at Kahootz Salon and Spa
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
At Kahootz Salon and Spa, we are dedicated to celebrating the lives of our “Warriors”. Our “Warriors” are people who have been diagnosed with any cancer, have been fortunate enough to have beaten any cancer, and/or are undergoing dialysis treatments.
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
Kelly Deem is our catalyst for why we do what we do at Kahootz. Kelly was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma at the age of 18 and was given 6 months to live. She was qualified to receive 18 weeks of chemo. Kelly was the only survivor out of 3 patients, and is here with us almost 25 years later.
What do you love most about your job?
I love to see the transformation between when my guest walks in my door, and when they walk out. Coming from a childhood of low self-esteem, I love to boost peoples confidence by simply making them realize just how beautiful they are through their hair.
What is the best reaction you’ve ever gotten from a customer?
I had a friend who had allowed her Aunt to put box-lightener from Wal-Mart on her hair. Amanda came out with having uneven color, “cheetah spots” and terribly damaged hair. She said she was embarrassed to wear her hair down. When i gave her blended highlights to break up the color, she left beaming.
