A Chat with Jocelyn at Kahootz Salon and Spa
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
At Kahootz Salon and Spa we give complementary services to our “Warriors”. Our “Warriors” are clients who are battling cancer, have beaten cancer, or are undergoing dialysis treatments. We arent a salon mourning the loses of our loved ones, we are celebrating the lives of who are with us today.
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
Kelly Deem is our catalyst for why we do what we do. She was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma at the age of 18, and was given 6 months to live. Kelly was 1 of 3 patients qualified for experimental treatment. After over a year of treatments and transplants, Kelly was the only one to survive.
What do you love most about your job?
I am one who was bullied and had zero self-esteem. Having guests come to me with their head down, and watch them leave beaming is what makes time so worth while. Being able to show people just how beautiful they really are and build their self confidence all in a hairstyle, is the greatest gift.
What is the best reaction you’ve ever gotten from a customer?
I had a guest come to me after she had experimented with box color, sobbing because she was”embarrassed to wear her hair down.” After I fixed her hair, she could not stop smiling, touching her hair, and crying; tears of joy!
