What You'll Get
For $100, today's side deal gets young shooters (ages 8–17) a chance to hoop it up for four days at the Ben Gordon Basketball Camp (a $205 value for non-members of Joe Dumars’ Fieldhouse and a $195 value for members). Camp is held daily 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Monday, August 30, to Thursday, September 2. Campers and coaches huddle up each day on one of the indoor court spaces of Joe Dumars' Fieldhouse, located in Shelby Township.
Bouncing under the flagship name of NBA superstar Ben Gordon, this four-day camp explores the fundamentals of the sport while still leaving time for campers to soak up pure basketball bliss. Regardless of skill level, the Ben Gordon Basketball Camp is a chance for lay-up artists and decent dunking teens to interact with expert coaches, enthusiastic peers, and sharpshooting star Ben Gordon, who will attend as often as his schedule permits. Gordon, an NCAA national champion at the University of Connecticut, the third-overall NBA draft pick in 2004, and the first rookie ever to win the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award (2004-05 season), will stop by to shoot around with the campers, explain the physics behind his brilliant free-throw percentage, and possibly dunk a child—into the basket of Naismithian knowledge. Call ahead to register.
Though reviews are limited, Joe Dumars' Fieldhouse has a positive four-star average from five Insider Pagers:
- We were invited here by friends and were very impressed with the facilities- soccer, baseball, basketball- you name it, they have it! – Melanie S.
- The staff and coaches for the younger kids's [sic] leagues are fantastic! They remember my children's names a year later, and were very enthusiastic and good with the kids. They are careful about having parents sign the kids in and out. – Sue E.

About Joe Dumars Fieldhouse
Founded in 1994 as a community-based recreation center, Joe Dumars Fieldhouse is a 100,000-square-foot facility that houses sports leagues and camps in addition to an arcade-equipped entertainment center and an indoor/outdoor restaurant. Dumars' value of sportsmanship lives on through league play and pickup games on one of nine basketball courts and in two full-sized hockey arenas. Camps and clinics provide activity-based instruction to little ones, and the entertainment center's mini-golf and mini-bowling areas host small-scale enjoyment without enforcing miniature-shoe rentals. After rigorous activity, guests can head to Joe's Southern Grill, an arena-themed eatery with tables made from the Pistons' NBA-championship basketball court and a kitchen supervised by head chef Bill Laimbeer.
