Castell is Catalan for "human tower" -- a historic (and still hugely popular) staple of Spanish festivals that's one part human pyramid, one part Tower of Babel. Profoundly inspired by their recent residency work in Llorenç del Penedes in Catalonia, Orange Grove Dance's Matt Reeves and Colette Krogol use their embodied knowledge of contact improvisation and partnering work to explore new methods of weight sharing, relationship and interdependence in their innovative new dance entitled Un castell built for two. Presented at Joe's Movement Emporium in Mt. Rainier, this evening-length dance work is a physically demanding exploration of the delicate balancing act that's essential to human tower building -- and the powerful connections it brings to its participants.
