A healthy dose of NY-style attitude can catch the recipient off guard if unexpected. Consider this fair warning that Joey Brooklyn's Famous Pizza Kitchen might not greet you with hugs and European-style cheek kisses. Thicken your skin with today's bluntly scrumptious deal: for $10, you get $20 worth of pizza, wings, pastas, salads, and more at this no-nonsense pizzeria. Your Groupon is only good for dine-in and carryout (tax included), so if you want delivery, do it yourself (also a great opportunity to finally check out FM radio).
Joey's is open late to account for scoundrels, riffraff, and nocturnal humans, or "manpires." It's open Thursday through Saturday until 3 a.m. and until 1 a.m. on every other day. Forgo late-night trips to 24-hour grocery stores and up-all-night diners in exchange for a piping pie of sauce, mozzarella, and chosen toppings. Pizza is the best late-night snack since it feeds a lot of people, is well loved by anyone with a stomach, and somehow tastes just as good (if not better) served cold the next morning.
Pick up pizza by the slice and whet your Italiano whistle. Get a standard-crust cheese slice for $2.50 or the deeper and more authentic Sicilian slice of cheese for $2.95. Additional toppings are $.55 per slice. Get the entire pizza puzzle with a whole pie; a thick-crust Sicilian cheese is $15.95 with each topping tacking on an additional $1.95. If you favor truckloads of toppings, take advantage of the deluxe pizza special, where you can get a six-topping Sicilian for just $21.95. Joey Brookyn's also offer a full menu of calzones ($6.50), pastas ($6.25–$7.25), sandwiches ($6.25), and wings ($7.95 for 12). For those who want to dine in, expect a casual atmosphere with honest service. Those who pick up their carryout for a meal at their Uncle Umberto's, expect the same.

Creative Loafing listed Joey Brooklyn's as one of the top pizzas in Tampa Bay for 2007:
- At Joey Brooklyn's in downtown St. Pete, owners Quinn Duffy (a former actor -- his posters are on the wall) and Rocco Buzio (a restaurant veteran from Boston via L.A.) have the patter down. "Whaddya want?" It's a no-nonsense shop, pies slapped into cardboard and slices tossed onto paper plates all day long, as late as 3 a.m. on weekends…. Joey Brooklyn's pie had a thinner crust, with better chew and a distinctive blast of peppery oregano and basil that stopped just short of overwhelming the pie. – Brian Ries, Creative Loafing
One Metromixer gives the pizzeria a perfect five stars, while TripAdvisors give it four owl eyes. Citysearchers and Yelpers give it a solid 3.5 stars:
- The pizza was excellent, served quickly and piping hot. – cruisemom2, TripAdvisor
- This is perfect New York style pizza! – xrystyna, Citysearch
- …this is what real pizza should look and taste like. – erwin3201, Citysearch

About Joey Brooklyn's Famous Pizza Kitchen
The brick walls of Jane Aberro's pizzeria are covered with autographed photos of celebrities such as Robert De Niro and Samuel L. Jackson, each scrawled with lines of encouragement for the restaurant Aberro opened in her hometown of St. Petersburg. After working in show business in Los Angeles, Aberro decided to return home and open a pizzeria with partners, eventually taking the helm herself.
Inside, the manager gathers orders from customers, joking with a light Texas drawl while carefully monitoring the pizza, sandwiches, and soups. Behind the counter, cooks knead dough made from scratch, pour on house-made sauces, chopped herbs, and custom toppings, then fire pies in the oven until the crusts become golden and crisp. Aberro believes that what sets her pizza apart is the quality of her hand-selected ingredients, especially when it comes to her favorite component, cheese. She said the calzones are one of her favorite dishes because of the amount of cheese in each bite, noting, "even if you are used to eating cheese out of a can, you can taste the difference that the fresh cheese makes."
Aberro's attention to detail led to her personally designing the store's logo, hanging up the eatery's photograph of the Brooklyn Bridge, and following up with her customers. Open until 3 a.m., the pizzeria transforms from a cozy lunch spot into a well-oiled machine, rapidly producing slices for the late-night customers who line up around the block after leaving a nearby concert venue.
