Wrap your tongue in comfortable food blankets sewn by Italian seamstresses. Today’s Groupon gets you $45 worth of family-style Italian comfort food for $20 at Joey & Eddie’s Italian Restaurant, set on Washington Square Park in North Beach. From its classic neon sign to the dark wood and black leather chairs, Joey & Eddie’s hearkens back to old New York. The Bronx-born proprietors of this eatery specialize in family-style portions. These mighty plates of belly-satisfying love feed three hungry mouths and are perfect for sharing after work with coworkers or members of your Richard Lewis Book Club.
Joey & Eddie’s menu offers all the beloved Italian classics, like spaghetti and meatballs ($18 per person or $29 family style to feed three), shrimp scampi ($17, $27), chicken parmesan ($18, $28), pork chop with vinegar peppers and garlic ($18, $28), and the Joey & Eddie salad ($12, $22). Gather up rowdy stockbrokers for a heaping, family-style plate of spaghetti carbonara ($27) and your Groupon would still cover a glass of red, white, or Negroamaro rosato from Puglia ($8) to raise in toast of the good life. Be sure, too, to drill a couple extra holes in that belt for some decadent Italian desserts, including Italian-style cheesecake ($16), tiramisu ($16), the thankfully obvious cannoli ($14), and the three-dessert sampler ($19).
For an even more authentic old-country experience, time your visit according to Joey & Eddie’s nightly features. Monday brings the traditional flavors of Sicily with semolina thin-crust pizzas (all pies $10 for a single portion or $19 family style with $0.75 for each additional topping). Tuesdays feature flavors from different regions of Italy, while Wednesday tempts diners with house-made ravioli. Thursday serves up braised beef brisket, and Friday offers the fresh market catch. Weekends feature braised lamb shank on Saturday and that ultimate of Italian comfort foods, house-made lasagna on Sundays.
Groupon is not valid on happy hour specials, all you can eat spaghetti, or the Rat Pack show on occasional Saturdays.

- The food was tasty…It was just the right amount of food for us. Service was great, even though they were busy getting ready for their New Year’s Eve party…All in all a great family dinner at a cozy restaurant. – OpenTable user who dined on 12/31/2009
- Best Italian in North Beach. We’ve been in North Beach for over a year and this is the only Italian food we’ve loved. It’s New York family style. Our favorite is the parmesan shrimp. – kikiscot, Citysearch
