About Johnnie Byrd Brewing Company
Along with great beer, owner Greg Ptacek holds family at the center of its sights. Finding inspiration from his grandparent's love story, he names his company Johnnie Byrd Brewery—based on his grandfather's band "Johnnie Byrd Orchestra" and the woman who fell for the bad boy with the tunes. He keeps his family close, working with his wife, Kelly, in the tap room and putting his two kids to work as expert root beer taste-testers. But "family" extends beyond blood for Greg. He's proud to have grown up in rural Nebraska and works hard to support it, making Johnnie Byrd Nebraska's first benefit corporation brewery. He builds his business on three tenets: fair and honest wages for employees; brewing all beers with renewable energy; and supporting rural Nebraska with 10% of annual profits, letting his staff decide where half or more of that investment goes.
