Joto Thai Sushi
Joto Thai Sushi was founded in 1984, making it one of the oldest Japanese restaurants in Tampa. And though the restaurant also serves Thai specialities, ranging from pad thai to panang curry, much of their focus remains on artful sushi and sashimi creations. Whether it's the playful creature-esque design of the Monster roll (complete with makeshift eyes and antennae) or the impressive presentation of the Bahamas Lava roll, chefs ensure their work looks just as good as it tastes.
This attention to aesthetics extends to the space, as well. Paper lanterns, rustic wood paneling, and authentic Asian decor create an experience akin to visiting an Old-World Japanese sushi house. A makeshift pond in the corner, an impressive selection of sakes, and a few traditional chair-less tables—which require guests to sit on the floor or master the art of levitation—help complete the illusion of teleporting halfway across the globe.
