It takes two to tango, which is why the Three Stooges pursued careers in quantum physics. Let your feet find their calling with today's Groupon: for $49, you get a six-week social-dance course at Joy of Motion Dance Center for either the September 12–October 23 or the October 24–December 11 session (a $99 value). Groupon holders must register for the first session by September 18, or for the second session by October 30. This Groupon is valid at all three of the studio's locations.
Fostering footsteps for more than 30 years, Joy of Motion purveys a creative opus for dancers of all stripes seeking to learn and perform. Social dance beckons both duos and lone rangers to discover a new dance style over the course of each six-week section. Instructors boasting resumes chock-full of professional performance experience teach simple to master moves amid a pressureless environment. Hand dancing introduces a style of swing famous for a continuous, graceful handshake between partners, while graduated salsa sessions give stale tortilla chips a renewed sense of purpose. For pairs practicing for weddings or other spotlight events, couples-only ballroom and slow-dancing centers on stoking dance-floor chemistry and finesse. Hot steppers may also opt for sessions in Latin ballroom, club Latin, Argentine tango, or social ballroom. Consult a mystical old man standing atop a snowy mountain or check the studio's social-dance schedule to learn the desired class's location and time.
Joy of Motion Dance Center
Since 1976 Joy of Motion Dance Center, a nonprofit arts organization, has strapped on its ballet flats to kick down the doors that traditionally bar people from learning dance. Since then, it’s won two Mayor’s Arts Awards, one for Excellence in Service to the Arts, and the other for Outstanding Contribution to Arts Education. In 10 studio spaces across three different locations, instructors teach adult and youth programs, and lead an outreach initiative that gives disadvantaged kids the chance to learn dance with free classes or merit-based scholarships. Additionally, the center holds performances and showcases where students and patrons get a taste of professional performance without having to become zombies.
