The Issue: Welcoming Transitional Housing
Junior League of Miami, Inc.’s (JLM) transitional-housing facilities provide a safe and supportive place for women and children survivors of domestic violence to live. But the women of JLM think they can do better. Inspired by the JLM Showhouse—a physical celebration of luxury design that raises funds for its housing programs—the team decided to use the power of design to improve families’ lives. They turned to the students at Miami’s Design Architecture Senior High School for ideas on how to build a more functional and welcoming living space for families in need.
The Campaign: Improving Transitional Housing
Donations to this Grassroots campaign will be used by Junior League of Miami, Inc. to improve the living spaces at its ITN transitional housing residence. Every $10 raised will go toward buying new furniture, home repairs, and implementing design elements in apartments for women and children survivors of domestic violence.
Donors may also check out Groupon’s deal for The Junior League of Miami Showhouse at the Kampong, with proceeds benefitting the Junior League of Miami.
Junior League of Miami, Inc.
When a family escapes domestic violence, their whole world can turn upside down. But the women of the Junior League of Miami know that the quickest way to restore balance and break the cycle of violence is to provide survivors with a safe, comfortable place in which to live. JLM's signature programs, Inn Transition North and Inn Transition South, do just that. Each transitional-housing facility shelters women and children for up to 24 months in safe, secure, and gated communities. And the apartment buildings aren't just comfortable, they also include a children's library and playground, as well as access to Junior League of Miami volunteers who lead life-skills-training sessions and enrichment activities.
