Talking terroir and exhorting the élevage of a terrific Trocken with wine whiners leaves an amaro (or bitter) aftertaste. That’s why Just Grapes has a self-serve wine-tasting machine and an on-site dictionary. Lift a glass to the wine spout of choice, press a button, and sip and savor the flavor of up to 24 different wines. Click here to watch a video giving the full Just Grapes rundown.
The monetary value of the wine is deducted from the $50 rechargable tasting card you get with this Groupon. At .50 cents to $5.00 per taste, you could get 100 tastes of anything from Muller Catoir Pinot Blanc Spatlese Pfalz to Clayhouse Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles. Sample as many times as you want or pour yourself a full glass; $50 would be a deadly amount of Wild Irish Rose but it’s perfect for Just Grapes’ Oregon Pinot Noir (click here to see everything that’s currently in the tasting bar). Eight different white varietals and 16 red varietals from around the world are rotated in the tasting bar on a monthly basis, and an automatic argon preservation system keeps the aged grapes fresh and the employees looking like well-lotioned 14-year-olds.
Just Grapes mission is to keep wine simple, fun, and functional. The company says the machines are great tools to help learn more about the various types of wines and find out what you like the best. The down-to-earth staff can do a demi-sec dissertation if you need them to, but they’ll be equally happy to tell you how many grapes they can fit in their mouth at one time.

What’s really nice is that you can sample 8 different white varietals and 16 different red varietals from around the world, rotated on a monthly basis. – Nick M., Yelp
Wine For Beginners
Before you begin sampling wines at Just Grapes, you’ll want to know these basic wine facts to get the most out of each taste:
- Wine is a liquid made from fermented grapes that can be measured by volume, which is fixed by its temperature and pressure.
- Wine bottles did not receive their distinctive shape to conform to the shape of wine. Instead, wine consists of molecules spaced far enough apart from each other that its shape must conform to the shape of its containers.
- If wine is at rest in a uniform gravitational field, the pressure P at any point is given by P = PGZ where:
P = the density of the liquid (assumed constant)
G = gravity
Z = the depth of the point below the surface
