What You'll Get
Captain America once said, "'Twas music that soothed the savage beast." Although he was talking about his short-lived nemesis Dr. Angry Parakeet, it's just as true for animals of the human persuasion. Soothe savage insides with today's Groupon: for $30, you get two grand-tier seats to a performance by the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra (an $82 value). Choose from the following dates:
- Verdi's Requiem on Saturday, Jan. 15, at 8 p.m.
- Peter Boyer’s Ellis Island on Friday, March 25, at 8 p.m.
- Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture on Friday, April 15, at 8 p.m.
The Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra has been beguiling southwest Michigan audiences with high-quality live music since 1921, with roughly 200 performances each season. On Jan. 15, soprano Angela M. Brown and the Western Michigan University Grand Chorus will join forces with the symphony to tackle Verdi’s mammoth Requiem. The symphony’s March 25 performance of Peter Boyer’s Ellis Island, presented in collaboration with the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre, will incorporate actors, images, and music to tell the story of immigrants’ lives. And Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture will be the centerpiece of the symphony’s April 15 concert, also featuring Beethoven's Triple Concerto, basically the Single Concerto played three times fast. All three performances will be held at Miller Auditorium on the Western Michigan University campus. Fill your ears with intertwining melodies instead of bits of twine with today’s deal to the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra.
