Recently outfitted with a brand-new refrigeration system, renovated locker rooms, and refurbished bleachers, Kansas City Ice Center, sends glacial-coasters gliding around its state-of-the-art rink. Guests strap on a pair of included rental skates and glide across frosty flooring during open skate. After lively wintry cardio sessions, guests can lick the ice for instant hydration or visit the center’s concession area to fuel up with snacks from the full bar. Alternatively, customers can brush up their ice-surfing skills during a range of weekly skating courses. Lads and lasses ages 3–5 can learn to skate in a Snowplow Sam class, and older students get up to icy snuff in beginner classes for adolescents and adults. Advanced skaters double Salchow into specialty classes, including Theater on Ice and Intro to Ice Dance. Students also receive six passes to open skate, where they may practice their techniques or rehearse their production of Hamlet on Ice.
Kansas City Ice Center
The ice in Kansas City Ice Center's newly renovated rink accumulates blade scratches from skaters of all stripes, including hockey players and two of the most revered figure-skating clubs in the U.S. Throughout the year, the facility acts as a practice arena for those clubs as well as a classroom for nonprofessional skaters. Both children and adults master techniques during Learn to Skate programs, and aspiring slap shooters strengthen their grasp on competitive fundamentals during Learn To Play Hockey programs. In addition to lessons, the center also hosts special events, such as birthday parties and on-ice reenactments of The Great Banana Peel Spill of 1908.
