Henry Ford's famed Model T automobile was a happy accident, born from unclear size specifications on a mock-up of a "go-horseless carriage." Achieve Ford's original automotive ambitions with today's Groupon. For $22, you get three races and two fountain sodas from Kart 2 Kart (up to a $50 value). CityVoters awarded Kart 2 Kart the title of Best Amusement in 2009, and the Detroit News called the Sterling Heights speedway the Best Indoor Go-Cart Racing. While Kart 2 Kart does offer discounts on Mondays and occasions, the values in this Groupon reflect the business's regular peak rates.

Serving leaden feet a plate of mashed speed for 10 years, Kart 2 Kart's indoor go-karting experience constructs joyride-generated joy rain or shine within the safe, climate-controlled track. Buckle yourself into a go-kart capable of breaking the taste barrier with top speeds of 30 mph and feel the wind in your helmet-covered hair as you navigate Kart 2 Kart's six-turn 1/5-mile track of textured concrete for three eight-minute races ($15 each). You'll get 24 total minutes of g forces and power, supervised by a computerized timing system that will robo-reject any bribes you attempt to upload into its mainframe. After winning your race with a last-minute maneuver called "Dead Dog's Coy Wink," you and your pit-crew chief can enjoy two sodas ($5) before plotting out your foray into professional soapbox-derby racing.

All drivers must be at least 16 years old, be at least five feet tall, wear closed-toe shoes, and attend a driver's briefing. Safety equipment is provided, but drivers must bring their own steely resolve to win. Call ahead to verify Kart 2 Kart's open racing times and gear up for your own days of thunder.

CityVoters awarded Kart 2 Kart the title of Best Amusement in 2009, and the Detroit News called it the Best Indoor Go-Cart Racing. CityVoters and six Insider Pagers give Kart 2 Kart five stars, and Citysearchers give it 4.5 stars.

Kart 2 Kart

The 300-foot straightaway comes to an end in one of six wheel-testing curves. The Honda 6.5-horsepower engine hums in anticipation. The moment foot touches pedal, hydraulic brakes give their answer and the racing wheels cling to the textured concrete as the go-kart deftly whips through the turn. Coming up on the end of an eight-minute streak of adrenaline, racers zip past the final stretch of the 1/5-mile race track, tearing ahead of each other as the computerized timing system clocks each score to fuel future bragging rights and rematch challenges.

From Kart 2 Kart's café and bar, applause rises as family, friends, and opponents sizing up the competition send their appreciation down to the track, which they've been watching as they nosh on a selection of snacks and beverages. Juniors, meanwhile, wait their turn to hit the blacktop in age-appropriate Formula-K karts. Before strapping in, all racers receive instruction and a safety lesson, during which they learn how to operate the equipment, then strive to set records that can earn them a spot on the website's scoreboard.
