Treat your mouth to the culinary equivalent of a fabric-fluttering, sari-spinning, Aishwarya Rai–romancing Bollywood song and dance with today’s Groupon: for $15, you get $35 worth of Indian cuisine at Kashmir in Back Bay. Though the actual state of Kashmir might be under dispute, the state of its cuisine is indisputably exquisite. This deal is not valid for the lunch buffet or any other specials.
The high-end elegance of the restaurant’s atmosphere sets the tone for the accompanying menu. There are traditional rice dishes, such as murg biryani (basmati rice cooked with chicken chunks, nuts, and spices; $16), and beef options, such as beef vindaloo (beef cubes cooked with potatoes, a touch of lemon, and a tangy sauce; $15). Tandoori-style dishes with chicken ($14 for a half-order) or shrimp ($22) are offered alongside other lamb ($15) and seafood ($20–$21) options.
Not everything is quite so meaty, thanks to an extensive vegetarian menu. Baigan bhartha (eggplant mashed and sautéed with onions, garlic, ginger, and spices; $14) and saag paneer (spicy spinach with homemade cheese, $14) are a few of the meatless possibilities. And no trip to an Indian restaurant is complete without a starter of fresh-baked naan. Standard naan is $3, with upgrades such as chicken pesto or apricots costing a couple extra bucks. Order up some soup, salad, or desserts to round out your authentic dining experience.
