What You'll Get
America has always been the most extreme country, from the Boston Tea Punchings to having the first man swear on the moon. We hold this shredding guitar solo to be self-evident with today's Groupon: to the Kemah Triathlon Festival in Texas. Choose between the following two options:
- For $50, you get entry to the sprint race on Saturday, April 2nd at 6:50 a.m. (a $100 value)
- For $62, you get entry to the international distance race on Sunday, April 3rd at 6:50 a.m. (a $125 value)
Race packets are available for pickup on April 1st from noon to 8 p.m., April 2nd from noon to 6 p.m., or on the day of the race for an additional fee. All non-USAT members participating in the race must pay a $10 entry fee.
Challenging seasoned athletes and first-timers alike with a trio of swimming, cycling, and sprinting amid the scenic beauty of Galveston Bay, the Kemah Triathlon Festival inspires athletic endurance and a competitive spirit in one warhorse weekend. The horde of herculean hustlers will test water wings and gill technique by swimming a sizeable stretch—500 meters for the sprint, 1,500 meters for the international distance—through the waters of Galveston Bay. Once back on land, the human stampede saddles up trusty two-wheelers, and bicycles a breadth of 12 miles or 24.85 miles, respectively, pitting gear against gear and sparkly handlebar tassel against sparkly handlebar tassel. Finally, you'll fling feet to pavement in a run around the bridges and boardwalks of Kemah in a 3.1- or 6.2-mile dash. Every finisher will be regaled with a medal, and a number of tempting bonuses await a handful of international distance winners, including future triathlon qualifications, cash prizes, and solid-gold chocolate.
Racers will receive a registration packet full of identification materials plus a logo T-shirt, a souvenir swim cap, and a handy pouch of bicycle feed. A portion of the registration fees will support Reason 2 Race Charities, Living Water International, and Jenny's Light. The race website features an array of informative videos for first-timers. Before and after the race, hungry muscles and inquisitive minds can acquire food, equipment, and gear tune-ups during the triathlon's weekend-long health and fitness expo.
