Ki Sushi serves lunch Tuesday–Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and dinner Tuesday–Saturday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Black-clad servers scurry around Ki Sushi’s contemporary dining room doling out artistically plated portions of sustainable sushi, specialty maki, and Japanese izakaya plates during lunch and dinner hours. Afternoon eaters can appease grumbling stomachs with a classic spicy tuna maki roll ($6) or test tongues’ endurance with a samurai maki roll, a deep-fried delicacy stuffed with dungeness crab, cream cheese, and jalapeños ($12). Breakfast on a stick ($6) skewers bacon-wrapped quail eggs before they can begin hatching into progressively larger quail eggs, and a small plate of short-rib stew ($8) presents soy-braised, hormone-free Angus beef with poached egg, green onion, and shichimi pepper. Ki Sushi rounds out its generous menus with appetizers, noodle dishes, and desserts such as tempura chocolate pudding ($6).

Purple and green neon hues glow from contemporary light-box walls as patrons slide up to jet-black tables and chairs. Graffiti artwork fused with geisha faces hangs overhead, adding a tough edge to the zen-chic interior.

Sushi rolls can be spiced up, order three specialty rolls and it all tasted the same. But I will dine again.
