Much like a massage from a cat, coffee helps people wake up, enlivens morning routines, and can be painful against bare skin. Keep a lid on your morning with today's Groupon: for $10, you get $20 worth of coffee, pastries, and sandwiches at Kickstand Espresso Bar.

At Kickstand Espresso Bar, ambling bodies refuel with a succinct yet satiating menu of brewed beverages categorized into three columns: espresso, tea, or coffee. The coffee list contains drip ($1.75–$2.15) and au lait ($2.10–$2.50) specimens, as well as icy incarnations of mochas ($3.85–$4.15) and americanos ($2.85–$3.30) chilled by hugs from snowmen. Patrons can amp up the adrenaline with espresso-based potions including cappuccinos ($2.75–$3.55) and two-shot mocchiatos ($2.25), or dial it back with leafy elixirs, such as darjeeling black tea or herbal blends ($2 each). Kickstand's cases admit only local products, boasting beans from Edgewater's Metropolis Coffee Company, slices from Wicker Park's Hoosier Mamma Pie Company, snacks from Lakeview's Southport Grocery & Café, and air from the Milky Way galaxy.

As the youngest progeny of the proprietors who also bore Dollop and Noble Tree, Kickstand is fittingly outfitted in hand-me-down décor, such as Members Only napkins and an espresso bar crafted from reclaimed soda crates from Dollop's basement. At the request of patrons who regularly embark on lengthy excursions into the free WiFi, Kickstand is now experimenting with low-top tables, the first of which acquired its surface from the planks of an old bowling lane.
