According to The Iliad, live theater was invented when a group of Achaeans, disguised as a large wooden horse, surprised their Trojan audience with a stirring performance of Hamlet. Carry on the military tactic that blossomed into an art form with today’s Groupon to Kid Co Theatre. Groupon customers must register by September 10. Choose from the following options:
- For $50, you get a three-month acting program for kids from pre-kindergarten to 1st grade (a $150 value).
- For $50, you get a three-month acting program for kids from 2nd to 3rd grade (a $150 value).
- For $50, you get a three-month acting program for kids from 4th to 8th grade (a $300 value).<p>
Kid Co Theatre’s teaching team of Ben and Lia Oldham draws from extensive teaching experience to lead young cast members in a collaboration to create their own pirate-themed play. Aspiring actors work together, bolstering communication skills as they rehearse the nuanced spectrum of pirate emotions and gain self-confidence with every mimicked parrot squawk. Fourth through 8th graders comprise the main cast, learning to collaborate as they pen the show’s plot and play games of human Jenga. Junior cast members in 3rd and lower grades form a separate contingent to perfect their roles as a band of pirates marauding their way into the same show.
Students of all ages don their eye patches every Saturday from September 10 to November 12. Pre-kindergarten to 1st graders meet from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., 2nd through 3rd graders meet from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., and fourth through 8th graders meet from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Both casts run through their plank-walkin’ spectacle during the dress rehearsal on November 18 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in preparation for the final performance on November 19 at 2 p.m., where friends, family, and friends of imaginary friends will witness the polished pageantry.
