The Issue: Food Insecurity in Florida
In 2008–2010, more than 16% of Florida households experienced food insecurity, according to a report from the Food Research and Action Center, which means that more than 1,200,000 households lacked sufficient food on a regular basis and the resources to maintain a nutritious diet. Furthermore, the same report indicated that more than 490,000 households experienced very low food security—their eating patterns were disrupted due to inadequate resources.
The Campaign: Distributing Healthful Meals to Families
If 20 people donate $10 to this Grassroots campaign, then Kids Against Hunger Orlando can distribute 800 nutritious meals to underserved families. Local families volunteer to package each meal, allowing them to get involved in the fight against hunger. By partnering with local food banks and pantries, Kids Against Hunger Orlando distributes the meals quickly and efficiently to those families who are experiencing hunger. Each additional $10 donation will distribute 40 additional meals.
