Unlike driving a sports car, riding horseback is an eco-friendly mode of transportation that gives one the height required to signal truck drivers to blow their horns on busy interstates. Embrace the boost of traveling by steed with today’s Groupon: for $30, you get a private horseback-riding lesson at Kierson Farm in Flemington (a $60 value).

Helmed by Michael and Jessie Richardson, a husband-and-wife duo of world-champion Saddlebred horse trainers, Kierson Farm schools both equestrian amateurs and elites with riding instruction and coaching. Budding broncobusters as young as age 4 can try their hand at horse whispering and ponytail styling during a private riding lesson, available seven days a week. The trained and friendly staff will select a proper school steed for students to trot atop along scenic outdoor trails or the climate-controlled indoor ring. Students should come prepared for the 30-minute ride in appropriate attire, including a hard-soled shoes, long pants, and a lamp-shade helmet.

About OOB - Old Owner - Kierson Farm

After high school, Michael Richardson spent the next 15 years training show horses and winning a bushel of regional trophies at Richardson Stables. He eventually moved to Frenchtown, New Jersey, where he worked for Revelation Farm as a trainer and met his future wife, Jessie Kieren, who pioneered Revelation’s riding program. Fusing components of their respective last names, they founded Kierson Farm, whose verdant greens and indoor heated facilities house a fleet of trained American saddlebred show horses that ferry riders of all ability levels. The farm’s boarding services demonstrate their dedication to caring for hooved friends by delegating one staff member for every five horses, ensuring that each steed receives tender attention when not studying pig Latin.
