What You'll Get
By age 8, John Stuart Mill had learned Latin and Greek, and had written a political treatise barring those with no knowledge of Latin or Greek from his tree house. Enliven your child's mind and body with today's Groupon: for $17, you get a one-month membership to KinderJam (a $35 value). Classes meet Thursdays at 10 a.m. on Joe Battle Boulevard.
Ms. Colleen and the enthusiastic staff at KinderJam work with parents and kids in a program specially designed for children ages 1–5 to learn fundamental preschool skills in a high-energy group setting. Parents can watch or join-in as the trained KinderJam instructors get up to 20 kids out of their seats and fully engaged in large- and small-group learning activities. Skills such as counting and sock-monkey identification are a natural byproduct as kids sing, dance, and follow the motions to educational songs, which surreptitiously insert useful knowledge into their unsuspecting brains. Tykes develop socially as they engage in meaningful dialogue about sharing and the essential nature of color while gripping bright streamer wands. Core skills such as small-aircraft safety are not overlooked—teachers dedicate a special time for a lesson on properly packing colorful parachutes.
Through KinderJam, mother and former elementary-school teacher El Brown has helped educate kids in four countries using kinesthetic and tactile learning tools, which cross both the language and the sound barrier.

While her husband was in Iraq, KinderJam founder El Brown struggled to entertain her toddler with high-energy, enriching activities that would prepare him for kindergarten. Drawing on her master's degree in early-childhood education and more than a decade as an educator for children around the globe, Brown devised a program that has since become a preschool franchise reaching more than 1,300 children in four countries. The KinderJam curriculum, designed to mesh with NAEYC framework and Developmentally Appropriate Practice standards, fosters creativity and school skills with vibrant props, creative movement, and boisterous music. For younger participants, weekly BabyJam sessions strengthen bonds between infants and parents through music-fueled tickling, cuddling, and trigonometry-proof analysis.
