Studies show that children who don't learn to play a musical instrument often try to eat one. Save your offspring from an awkward doctor's visit with today's Groupon: for $15, you get three children's music classes at Kindermusik with Tess (a $30 value) in Deer Ridge. Classes are available Monday–Wednesday during the day; a full listing of class types can be found here.
Rooted in a German music-and-movement curriculum developed for kindergarteners in the late 1960s, Kindermusik has now taught more than a million youngsters in more than 60 countries. Licensed educators are versed in child development, musical concepts, and teaching styles, making them well equipped to lead lessons that stimulate cognitive and social development. Tykes age seven and younger, along with their guardians, learn about musical notation in small groups, exploring the sounds of international folk songs, chants, and rhymes as well as compositions from various time periods. Home activities and materials geared to each child's developmental level are included with every class, so whippersnappers can continue their education at home by reading songbooks, practicing instruments, or humming in tune with overzealous air conditioners.
