Swimming is an essential skill that can save one's life, much like the ability to start a fire or distinguish poisonous snakes from your shoelaces. Teach children slippery survival instincts with today's Groupon for introductory K.I.S.S. Swim Program lessons, taught by an instructor from Infant Aquatics in Willoughby. Choose from three options:
- For $40, you get a five-lesson package (a $60 value)
- For $70, you get a 10-lesson package (a $120 value)
- For $140, you get a six-week, 24-lesson package (a $288 value)
Instructor Michelle Alpern grants aquatic adroitness to children from 6 months to 6 years of age, transforming any pool or lake into a safe, fun waterscape. Each lesson lasts approximately 10 minutes and uses repetitive exercises and positive encouragement to impart essential motor skills that will make babies feel comfortable and relaxed when submerged. Children will learn how to hold their breath under the water, roll from a facedown position to face-up floating, relax until rescued by an adult, and use echolocation to find the nearest potty. Older mertoddlers learn the same basic techniques, along with rudimentary strokes for swimming to safety and stopping to breathe when necessary.
Lessons take place at the Courtyard Marriot Hotel on Maplegrove Road and are scheduled on an individual basis to fit into infant itineraries between naps and discovering that they have toes. Parents are encouraged to stay to watch the first few lessons to help acquaint their progeny with the new experience and minimize separation anxiety. Six-week packages meet four times a week to teach children the swim-float-swim technique, and 5- and 10-lesson options serve as a firm foundation for further growth.
Classes set to begin after March 1.
