Shrimp po' boys and pulled-pork tacos aren't your typical Japanese dishes, but at KuniSama the typical goes out the window. Instead, at the bar beside the eatery's teppanyaki grills, diners can order fusion dishes such as won ton pork nachos. But still the kitchen never loses sight of its Asian heritage. The sushi is expertly cut, the teriyaki sauce and noodle-soup broth are both house-made, and even the aforementioned po' boy comes with Sriracha aioli.

The teppanyaki meals, meanwhile, are fully customizable, allowing diners to choose from more than 10 meats and fishes for their protein base. They also include the standard fixings—soup, salad, rice, a shrimp appetizer, and mixed vegetables—but allow diners to add a personal touch with toppings such as kimchi and hibachi jalapeños, all of which pair well with a Japanese craft brew or cold sake.
