La Bocca may reside in White Plains, but its name, like its cuisine, came to New York by way of Rome. The restaurant shares a name with one of Rome's venerated marble sculptures, this one carved to depict a man's face. Called "La Bocca Della Verita" ("The Mouth of Truth"), the sculpture earned its name the hard way; legend has it that if you put your hand over the sculpture's mouth and tell a lie, it bites your hand off.
Legend has it, in other words, that the sculpture gets pretty hungry. The culinary team at La Bocca has a fix for that, though—a full slate of beautifully plated Italian delicacies, from regional favorites such as the baccala's salted cod to inspired takes on pastas and meats. Try the gnocchi with pears in gorgonzola cream sauce, or opt for sliced 16-ounce sirloin steak, served with shaved parmesan and arugula. Thirst matters, too; no matter what the orders, La Bocca's waiters are always ready to pair them with a glass of rossi or bianchi from the restaurant's carefully curated wine list.
