Anyone who wants to see where La Botánica gets its tomatoes or cilantro simply has to walk out the door. The restaurant's wraparound yard plays host to a garden that supplies the kitchen with fresh vegetables and herbs aplenty. They put these things to good use, creating seasonal vegan meals steeped in Tejas culture: the influence of Tex-Mex, Gulf Coast, Mexican, and New Mexican cuisines can be found in each flavorful dish. But fish tacos and black bean empanadas aren't the only things they cook up. The restaurant also aims to cultivate a sense of community by regularly screening films, hosting live bands, displaying local artwork, and offering cooking and gardening classes.
