The Broadway revival of La Cage aux Folles brings together a star-studded cast for a night of sidesplitting musical comedy. Five-time Emmy Award winner and professional Sideshow Bob impersonator Kelsey Grammer (of Cheers and Frasier fame) stars as Georges, owner of an extra-sparkly San Tropez drag nightclub. Douglas Hodge, winner of the 2010 Tony Award for Best Actor, plays Georges' partner Albin, who spends his evenings as the enchanting lady Zaza. The hilarity comes to a head when Georges' son brings home his fiancée's traditionally minded parents for a glittery, feather-filled culture clash peppered with show-stopping numbers such as "I Am What I Am," "Song on the Sand," and "Masculinity." This production of La Cage aux Folles won the 2010 Tony Award for Best Musical Revival and Best Director, among many other impressive accolades. The delightfully enlightening tale was also adapted for the American silver screen with 1996's The Birdcage starring Robin Williams and, through the magic of CGI, a chorus line of sequined John Waynes.

Note on fees: you will need to pay an additional $2.75 handling fee per purchase and a $1.50 ticketing fee per ticket.

La Cage aux Folles was reviewed by the New York Times, Time Out New York, the New Yorker, Variety, the New York Daily News and Entertainment Weekly:

  • Their plumage is wilting, their wigs are askew, and their bustiers keep slipping south to reveal unmistakably masculine chests. Yet the ladies of the chorus from “La Cage aux Folles” have never looked more appealing than they do in the warm, winning production that opened Sunday night at the Longacre Theater. – Ben Brantley, New York Times
  • This La Cage aux Folles is no longer breaking ground; it’s planting new crops and watching them bloom. I would never have thought that we needed another revival of this musical so soon after the last one’s flames flickered out. Yet somehow this familiar show blows the roof off the Longacre Theatre, and makes a case for La Cage as a classic of American musical comedy. – Adam Feldman, Time Out New York
